Tips

Coming to the center from the airport:

  • Taxi:

To go to the center, the taxi will cost you between 10 and 15 Euros. Some taxis tend to overcharge their errands. Check the meter well and do not be fooled if the price is different from the meter.

  • Uber/Taxify:

These platforms are to be preferred to taxis, because they have the advantage to assure you the price of the race, to simplify the payment and the service is of better quality.

  • Metro:

The most economical solution, but not necessarily the fastest, except in case of traffic jam. About €2. Find out about the topography of the city when you choose the station to which you want to exit. Due to the elevation, the nearest station is not necessarily the fastest to reach your destination.

  • Bus:

The Aerobus shuttle will cost you €4 per person and will leave you in Baixa the lower part of Lisbon. You can also use for €2 the regular bus lines of the municipal company Carris.

Tourist Sites:

  • Tram 28: One of the attractions of Lisbon. Starting from the Estrella basilica, it leads you through the old and narrow streets of Lisbon to the St Georges ‘s castle. It’s often crowded. Be vigilant with pickpockets. If you are agoraphobic, try the 24 or 25 trams instead.

Restaurants:

  • Appetizers: In Portuguese restaurants, bread, butter, olives and other appetizers will be arranged on the table. They are not free and you will be charged if you touch it.

Emergency number:

The 112 is the emergency number in Portugal.

Communicating with the Portuguese:

Portuguese are comfortable with foreign languages.

Young Portuguese generally speak good English, while older Portuguese are mostly French speakers.

The Portuguese appreciate the efforts to speak their language, but if you do not want to upset them, even if they understand it, avoid talking to them in Spanish.
